OWNERSHIP: BECOMING THE CEO OF OUR LIVES

Updated: Aug 10, 2023

In the stillness of reflection, I venture back into the maze of my past - a landscape scarred by the trials of physical discipline and homelessness. These childhood experiences imprinted a profound fear for survival, sparking an insatiable yearning for stability. Thus began my relentless pursuit of success, a beacon that promised a lifeline amidst the tumult.

This quest opened the revered portals of Harvard University, invited me into the world of finance, and propelled me into the exhilarating realm of entrepreneurship. I plunged into the depths of quantum physics and blockchain technology, amassing a wealth of knowledge and achievements. Yet, beneath these towering accomplishments lay a silent puppeteer, fear.

Despite the sheen of accolades and a stellar resume, I found myself wrestling with unseen specters. Depression, addiction, and the relentless shadows of my unresolved past formed an ominous backdrop against my achievements. In a desperate bid to assert my worth, I had exchanged my well-being for the illusion of worldly success, a bargain that eventually plunged me into an abyss of physical and emotional exhaustion.

The labyrinthine healthcare system, armed with an arsenal of prescribed medications, did little more than fan the flames of my addiction, leading to overdoses and renal failure. It was in the aftermath of surviving two suicide attempts, the darkest phase of my life, that I realized the need for change.

This profound realization marked the beginning of a new chapter in my life – the chapter of ownership. An act of radical self-love and accountability, taking ownership of my life offered a holistic perspective of my mental, emotional, and physical states. It guided me on a challenging but liberating journey towards freedom from the clutches of Adderall, alcohol, and nicotine.

As I claimed control of my life, I learned the importance of effectively managing my reactions to life's inevitable stressors. I discovered the transformative power of meditation, once an alien practice, which soon became a cornerstone of my daily routine, serving as a conduit for self-discovery and a connection to the divine.

Before this shift, I wore my sleep deficit as a perverse badge of honor. However, a meticulous analysis of my sleep and cardiovascular data revealed the indispensable role of sleep in my well-being. My transition from a scanty four hours to a restorative nine hours of sleep each night significantly improved my resting heart rate and heart rate variability.

Taking ownership of my life illuminated the intricate connection between physical health, spiritual growth, and conscious evolution. I realized that maintaining a healthy body is not just a luxury but a foundation for cultivating inner wisdom, a realization that had remained elusive within the confines of conventional medicine and education.

Reflecting on my journey, I have come to understand the transformative potential of the dark night of the soul. It wasn't merely a period of intense suffering; it served as a catalyst for my spiritual awakening. It disrupted the foundations of my existence, paving the way for an evolutionary personal transformation. From merely surviving, I evolved to a state of thriving, imbued with wisdom and awareness.

My journey is an affirmation of the extraordinary resilience that resides within each one of us. Even when we are shrouded in darkness, when the light at the end of the tunnel seems elusive, it is crucial to remember that the dawn inevitably follows the darkest hour. Hope is not just an optimistic sentiment; it is an act of faith, a stubborn refusal to surrender.

Taking ownership of our lives involves making conscious choices about our physical, emotional, and mental well-being. It means standing at the helm, taking responsibility for our actions, learning from our past, and carving a future that aligns with our true selves. It means treating our bodies with respect, nurturing our minds with knowledge, feeding our souls with love, and unlearning patterns that no longer serve us.

Spirituality is not something to be found ‘out there’, spirituality is taking ownership of what’s right here. Ownership can look like implementing a healthy diet and exercise regimen, creating a work-life balance, fostering meaningful relationships, investing in personal growth and professional development, or even adopting mindfulness practices such as meditation or yoga. Ultimately, taking ownership is a commitment to self-improvement and growth, a relentless pursuit of becoming the best version of ourselves.

As I bask in the light of a dawn following a dark night, I invite you to embark on this journey of self-discovery and transformation. Remember, in the grand scheme of life, it's not merely about survival; it's about evolution, growth, and the courage to step out of the shadows into the light of self-realization. When we take ownership of our lives, we are choosing not merely to exist, but to live consciously, purposefully, and vibrantly.
